English Translation
Look at this lofty snow mountain. What a grey-haired man of hundreds of years. Since ancient times, it has been the essential concept in our Chinese Kazakh steppe, silently watching the changes here and contemplating the long years that have passed!
It looks like a contemplating older man on a snowy mountain. Please open the title page of your memory. You can see the propagating lineage and galloping Wusun, Kangchu, Kypchak, Naiman, etc., right? This must be today’s Chinese Kazakh. For thousands of years, the storms on the grasslands have made Chinese Kazakhs as tough and brave as eagles with steel-strong character; the grassland mother who nurtured the growth of Chinese Kazakhs has also given her children as open and broad-minded as she is.
Indeed, our ancient, dynamic and brave people made historical contributions in unblocking the ancient Silk Road and promoting cultural exchanges between the East and West. Of course, in later years, our Chinese Kazakh forefathers, together with all the Chinese ethnics, shed blood to resist the feudal rules, as well as to resist the national oppression of the reactionary regulations, and contributed their sons and daughters’ lives to the cause of liberation of the Chinese Nation, thus finally ushering in liberation.
This isn’t all. Even the prairie song is different. The older man of the snowy mountain knows that the music accompanies the Chinese Kazakhs from their birth and accompanies them to their death. However, the low tunes of the past have been replaced by the cheerful tunes of today, and no Chinese Kazakh does not sing the ‘Six Songs of Awil’ at festivals or the Aken Singing Contest. The majestic and beautiful music played by the shepherd holding the dombra in his arms and the ‘siblings’ in his arms all show the deep feelings of the Chinese Kazakh people who love their new life.
However, the older man from the snowy mountain knows well in his heart - although we Chinese Kazakhs live in modern times, we have not abandoned the rich and colourful national culture because of it. Look at the colourful patterns and brocades made by Chinese Kazakh women’s hands and the elaborate carving of gold and silver jewellery, utensils, saddles, wooden utensils and all kinds of leather and felt products by skilled artisans, which are dazzling and breathtaking. There are also many interesting traditional customs, such as Girl Chase, Sheep Dodging, Horse Racing and Wrestling...... which are still essential elements in Chinese Kazakh life. The Chinese Kazakh grasslands are beautiful whenever summer is in full swing. The climate is cool and pleasant. The prestigious Kazakh life attracts visitors from all sides, and they come in flocks without any effort. The older man of the snowy mountain is still dressed in silver, just showing an amiable smile, quietly admiring the cheerful grassland, the charming beauty......
Of course, as evidenced by the older man of the snowy mountain, Chinese Kazakhs today by no means only live on the steppe. We already have our scientists, professors, writers, poets, artists, doctors, cadres, and workers...... who are working in their respective jobs, trying to contribute to the great cause of realising the four modernisations of our country.
You, the older man of the snowy mountain, what are you meditating on again? I think you must be looking ahead to the future of us, the children of the grassland.
